To ease pork’s prevailing price at P300-P320, Undersecretary-designate for Livestock William Medrano of the Department of Agriculture said hog raisers from Visayas and Mindanao started shipping more hogs and pork products to Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon last week, during his phone patch interview with DZDA 105.3, November 3.

Usec. Medrano said that African Swine Fever has damaged about 30 out of 50 percent of the total hog population in Luzon and some raisers downsized their operations because of the impact of ASF to prevent more losses, since the occurrence of the virus causing the price spike on pork products.

“The DA received some 100,000 hogs since the start of our partnership with several Local Government Units and hog producers and traders in Visayas and Mindanao” he added.

The undersecretary quoted DA Secretary William Dar saying that this move has been set as urgent to control the spike of prices in Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon for the consumers.
