The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office No. 02 (DA RFO 02) had distributed 50 packs of assorted vegetable seeds, 50 seedling trays, three (3) bags of potting media, and seedlings to police personnel of 1st Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company (CPMFC) – Philippine National Police Regional Highway Patrol Unit 2, May 14, 2020 held at Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Godofredo A. Wasin of 1st CPMFC, the activity will pave the way in setting up a garden as part of their initiatives in observance of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

“We’d like to extend our gratitude to the Department of Agriculture (DA)for granting our request on how we can put up a good garden is lined with our initiatives later on in support of our Adopted Community Assistance Project (ACAP). Our team will apply best practices after this technical briefing because we have a communal garden,” PLTCOL Wasin expressed.

Ms. Carol P. Albay, Agriculturist II, of the DA RFO 02 steered the technical briefing on vegetable production to beneficiaries for the development and improvement of the communal project being initiated by this group.

“In support of your communal garden activity, we can also give you other seed varieties not only on vegetables. We have strategized that in some areas our office can not easily get in, at your level, we shall seek your assistance by turning over seeds at the household level. It needs to form these specific places to form them as clusters for better availment of program services from DA,” said Albay.

“We appreciate your continuous support to the Agriculture sector. The first agency we have partnered with relative to the agriculture sector was the Department of Education (DepEd) since 2007 on the implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program. In Region 02, 2,623 schools benefited specific interventions from garden tools, training, and even benchmarking activities outside the region to show them all the new technologies related to vegetable production.”

Albay further said that DA RFO 02 had served the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) members of the DSWD through backyard planting in exchange to receive their specific allowance. She also added that just yesterday, DOH in Quirino province had benefited planting materials after their office showed interest in agriculture activities.

On a lighter note, the DA RFO 02 team is reaching out efficiently to farmers in support to Plant, Plant, Plant, Project – Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat Program (PPPP – ALPAS) kontra COVID 19 of the agency, which aims to ensure enough and safe food in every household nationwide.

The PPPP – ALPAS will include expansion of farm areas, rice resiliency project, palay procurement fund for NFA, expanded SURE Aid and recovery program, social amelioration for farmers and farmworkers, integrated livestock and corn resiliency project, revitalized gulayan project and urban agriculture, coconut-based diversification project, and fishery resiliency project.
