SOLANA, Cagayan, May 28 – The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02 (DA RFO 02) in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Solana, Cagayan recently distributed hybrid and inbred rice seeds to farmers of Solana who were recipients of assistance allocated under rice tariff fund, High Yielding Technology Adaptation (HYTA) project and farmers who were affected by drought and floods caused by typhoons Lawin and Ompong.
Headed by DA-RFO 02 Regional Executive Director Narciso A. Edillo, a total of 1, 475 bags of hybrid seeds and 3, 420 bags of inbred seeds were targeted to be distributed to the barangays of Solana.
On its first day of distribution, more than 200 farmer recipients have received their seeds particularly from the barangays of Gadu, Pataya, Ubong and Padul.
In his message, Director Edillo asked the farmers to cooperate with the government’s efforts and initiatives envisioned for them.
“Halos ibigay na lahat ng DA ang tulong para sa inyo. Ang hinihingi lang po namin, ang inyong kooperasyon. Para po sa inyo lahat ng ginagawa namin kaya sana i-embrace din natin ang mga programa ng gobyerno na nakahain para sa ikagagaan ng buhay nating mga magsasaka,” Director Edillo said.
The Regional Executive Director also pointed out and offered easy access loan programs to address the needs of small farmers for a fast, convenient and affordable credit.
Meanwhile, Solana Mayor Jennalyn Carag recognized the DA’s strategies and undertakings in support of farmers’ productivity and income. She also assured her all-out support to the department’s [DA] advocacies and campaigns.
“DA as the leading agency in food production has a great role in uplifting our farmers’ lives. Bilang katuwang ng mga magsasaka, kailangan din natin silang suportahan dahil kung walang mga magsasaka, walang magpapakain sa atin,” Mayor Carag added.
