The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office NO. 02 (DA-RFO 02) shall conduct a grand farm carnival tentatively scheduled last week of March 2019 at DA-Southern Cagayan Research Center-Cagayan Breeding Station (SCRC-CBS), Maguirig, Solana, Cagayan.

In her interview during the Monday’s Director’s Hour over DZDA (formerly DWDA), DA-RFO 02’s official radio station, Regional Technical Director Rose Mary G. Aquino, taking the place of Regional Executive Director Narciso A.Edillo who is attending a national conference with DA Secretary Emmanuel F. Pinol, announced that the carnival will feature climate-smart technologies for appreciation of the general public.

“Last year, our office had already started the development of CBS as an agri-tourism destination,” Aquino said.

“We hope that part of the Fiesta carnival will be the launching of CBS as agri-tourism site.”

The activity, she added, will also showcase integrated farming with crops, livestock, organic agriculture and fishery in small space at different affordable capital requirements as main features.

“Likewise, interventions on various irrigation models, mechanization, credit, and others will be presented to the farmers, local government units, the private sector, and other visitors,” she quipped.

“What makes this festival different from the past is the involvement of all the barangays of Solana, Cagayan as host municipality and other institutions like the Provincial Government of Cagayan and the academe. We will also be inviting DA Secretary Emmanuel F. Pinol as our Guest of Honor and Speaker.”

“Magkakaroon po tayo ng paligsahan sa vegetable gardening na kung saan ang mga participants ay mga farm families ng Solana at mga estudyante mula sa Cagayan State University at mga elementary at high schools sa munisipalidad.”

CBS is a satellite station of DA-SCRC with a goat as its main commodity.

It is the source of quality goat stocks that caters not only Cagayan farmers but raisers of Region 02 and nearby areas.

The types of goat raised in the station are Boer and Kalahari red.

Lately, CBS was not visible enough for travelers passing the station in Barangay Maguirig.

But with all the improvements that are being made to turn it into an integrated and agri-tourism farm, it is already very visible along the highway with a giant replica of goat in front coupled with the establishment of technology demonstrations for crops, livestock and fisheries and other amenities inside.

Watch out for more updates as the countdown for the two-day grand carnival starts.
