TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 2 (DA RFO 2) Livestock Program successfully concluded its five-day hosting of the 1st Quarter National Livestock Program (NLP) Assessment, a huge step forward in the advancement of the livestock industry in the Philippines.

The event, held at Seed Hotel, Tuguegarao City, drew prominent figures from the NLP, including NLP Director Claro Mingala and NLP Deputy Director Dr. Nover Lee Calub.

The opening day was further graced by the presence of DA RFO 2 Regional Executive Director Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino and Regional Technical Director Roberto C. Busania, highlighting the DA RFO 2’s commitment to the program.

A key highlight of the assessment was the participation of livestock focal persons from across the country, driving a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and strategic planning.

During the assessment, a groundbreaking initiative was launched: the Youth-Based Artificial Insemination (AI) Training Program. This program aims to empower the youth with essential skills in livestock breeding, ensuring the sustainability and advancement of the industry for future generations.

Adding to the significance of the event, a state-of-the-art Cattle and Goat Semen Laboratory at the DA SCRC Annex in Maguirig, Solana, Cagayan, was officially inaugurated. This cutting-edge facility is expected to significantly enhance the region’s capacity for livestock genetic improvement and breeding programs.

Participants also embarked on an educational tour in the City of Ilagan, Isabela, to benchmark innovative technologies and best practices related to livestock development. This tour provided valuable insights and practical knowledge that can be applied to improve livestock production across the country.

Today, the participants are set to return to their respective regions, armed with new knowledge, strategies, and a renewed commitment to advancing the Philippine livestock industry. The successful conclusion of the 1st Quarter NLP Assessment underscores the DA’s dedication to creating a culture of teamwork and innovation for the benefit of Filipino livestock farmers nationwide.
