A total of 23 farmersโ€™ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) from Region 02 received composting facility for biodegradable wastes (CFBW) units during the Turn-Over Ceremony and Training held at the Department of Agriculture-Isabela Experiment Station (DA-IES) in Gamu, Isabela on May 20, 2025.

Spearheaded by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) through its Compost Production Implementation Team, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02 (DA RFO 02), the initiative provided each FCA with one biomass shredder and one rotary composter. The total project cost amounted to P16,095,400.

The 1st batch composed of 11 FCAs was formally turned over on May 20, while the 2nd batch of 12 FCAs received theirs on May 21.

In her welcome message, IES Manager Dr. Jacqueline Gumiran expressed appreciation for the collaboration among DA agencies and stakeholders in realizing the goal of promoting sustainable agriculture through composting.

Dr. Roberto Busania, DA RFO 02 Regional Technical Director for Operations and Extension, delivered an inspirational message encouraging FCAs to maximize the use of biodegradable wastes.

โ€œWe are trying to promote and convince all the municipal mayors to participate in this effort.

The event also featured a technical briefing and demonstration on the proper operation and maintenance of the composting equipment to ensure efficient and sustained usage by beneficiaries.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), DA staff, and other stakeholders who signified their continued support for organic agriculture initiatives in the region.

The program is in line with the Marcos Administrationโ€™s commitment to promote resource-efficient farming systems and reduce waste through sustainable compost production, contributing to higher productivity and improved soil health in farming communities.
