Tuguegarao City, Cagayan โ€“ In line with the nationwide observance of Filipino Food Month 2025, the Department of Agriculture โ€“ Regional Field Office No. 02 (DA-RFO 02) spearheaded a regional celebration on April 11 at Robinsons Place Tuguegarao, spotlighting the rich culinary heritage of the Cagayan Valley.

This yearโ€™s celebration carries the theme โ€œSarap ng Pagkaing Pilipino, Yaman ng Kasaysayan, Kultura at Pagkataoโ€, underscoring the significance of Filipino cuisine in shaping the nationโ€™s history, culture, and identity.

Delivering the keynote message on behalf of DA Executive Director Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino, DA-RFO 02 Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Ms. Kay S. Olivas emphasized the agency’s commitment to the initiative.

โ€œDA-RFO 02 wholeheartedly supports this initiativeโ€”not only as a showcase of our culinary wealthโ€”but as an opportunity to rediscover, revive, and promote the native flavors that define us as Filipinos and as Cagayanos,โ€ she stated.

DA RFO 02, Information Officer II Ms. Jhoana M. Bassig presented an overview of the activity, noting the DAโ€™s key role in the month-long observance of Filipino Food Month, also known as Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino as declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 469. The annual event is jointly led by the DA, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

A highlight of the event was the Search for the Most Outstanding Food Delicacies in Cagayan Valley, which recognized exemplary local food products and honored the efforts of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in preserving traditional recipes while embracing innovation in food production.

The celebration brought together various stakeholders, including Farmerโ€™s Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs), local government units, entrepreneurs, and the general publicโ€”reflecting DA-RFO 02โ€™s enduring support for sustainable agriculture and agri-food development in the region. The event also featured technical lectures and live food processing demonstrations conducted by DA-RFO 02 experts, aimed at enhancing the capacities of local producers in modern techniques, food safety, and value-added production.

In continuation of its outreach initiatives, the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) will also conduct a feeding program and distribution of seeds and seedlings on April 16 at the Reception and Study Center for Children in Solana, Cagayan, a residential care facility under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 02.

Through these activities, DA-RFO 02 reaffirms its dedication to uplifting regional agri-food systems while honoring the enduring legacy of Filipino cuisine.
