In a significant boost to the local swine industry, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 2 (DA RFO 2) Livestock Program has turned over a Php5.5 million Community-Based Swine Facility to the Claveria Poultry Raisers Association in Brgy. Luzon, Claveria, Cagayan on February 17, 2025.

The project, set to be implemented is part of the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program under the National Livestock Program (NLP).

Vice Mayor Fredelino Agpuldo, who is also a member of the recipient- association, said it is a dream come true.

“I represent Mayor Lucille Angelus Guillen- Yapo, and she told me this project will eventually uplift the lives of the swine farmers in Luzon and finally Claveria. We are forever grateful to DA RFO2 headed by Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino,” Agpuldo said

“This project which aims for swine recovery, is the 2nd in Cagayan Province and 5th in Cagayan Valley. This turn over is just a start. It’s the government turning this over to you. In return, you also have to turn over two things to us: productivity and high yield. This is in line with the President BBM and DA’s legacy programs for increased income of farmers. If you produce more, we will not import pork from other countries anymore.

Likewise, I have been monitoring our regional production on egg. Only 50 percent of our consumption is coming over to us. So, if you can present to me a project proposal on egg production, we are going to consider it. We are going to approve it,” Aquino said.

Meanwhile, according to Dr. Bryan Sibayan, DA RFO 2 Regional Livestock Program Focal Person, this initiative aims to restore the hog industry in the region to its former glory and beyond.

โ€œThis project, Community-Based Swine Production thru Clustering and Consolidation Project is in support to the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program under National Livestock Program (NLP). The Php5.5 -million worth of project is awarded to Claveria Poultry Raisers Association, headed by its President Roland Viloria.

“This is a breeder -based project, with 10 sows and one boar

It is hoped that this project will bring back the hog industry in the region to its former shape, or even better,โ€ Dr. Bryan Sibayan, DA RFO 2 Regional Livestock Program Focal Person said.

The Claveria Poultry Raisers Association, led by President Roland Viloria, has been awarded the Php5.5 million project. Viloria emphasized the significance of this project, stating that it will not only support the local swine industry but also ensure a sufficient supply of hogs and pork in the province.

He assured that the cooperative members are committed to adhering to the highest standards in their operations. The project’s goal is to benefit the community and future generations. With this initiative, the DA RFO 2 Livestock Program is taking a crucial step towards revitalizing the swine industry in the region.

“Our goal is to take part in helping our community. This project will ensure that our community will be benefited and also our future generation.” Viloria said.

With Dr. Aquino and Dr. Sibayan are Engr. Editha Guillermo, Engr. Henry Somera and Mr. Ferdinand Arquero.
