The Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office No. 02, met today, January 31, 2020, to discuss the implementation of the Young Agripreneuers Loan Program (YALP) and Micro and Small Agribusiness Loan Program (MSALP) for Cagayan Valley youths to start and operate income-producing agribusiness.

“This is our way to attract the younger generation of Filipinos to be key players in attaining our vision of a food-secure Philippines with prosperous farmers and fishers. We have to replace aging farmers with younger blood – our Pinoy millennials – who are the future of Philippine agriculture,” said DA Sec. William Dar.

Regional Executive Director Narciso A. Edillo said he supports this program that has a total budget of 2B pesos dedicated to youths in the country that want to venture into agriculture and agribusiness.

The youth loan application is easy. An eligible borrower should be 18-30 years old and a young agriculture/fishery entrepreneur — an agriculture and fishery graduate (formal or non-formal schooling). You must submit a business proposal, and once approved, an agripreneuer can get up to 500,000 pesos with 0 percent interest and payable up to five (5) years.

Once granted, the youths will undergo advisories/technical assistance services such as mentoring, entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, product packaging from both private and public universities, as well as from DA’s marketing and agribusiness division.

According to Regional Technical Director Rose Mary Aquino that there is this program of DA that technology Transfer and Entrepreneurial Development Services that we can share with our young ones.
