The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Regional Field Office No. 02-Cagayan Valley Research Center conducted Cassava Model Farm Field Day at Brgy. Villa Capuchino (former Brgy. Sta. Victoria), Naguilian, Isabela on August 16, 2019.
Cassava is the most important agricultural root crop in the country with its high fiber content that could be a substitute for rice as a staple.
Cagayan Valley, ranked as the third top producer of cassava tubers in the country, is still faced with the problem of low productivity which in turn causes low yield.
The conduct of model farm on high yielding variety, pre-treatment of planting materials against specific diseases, fertilization, and training on improved variety Package of Technology (POT), and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) aims to enhance productivity by increasing farmers yield.
The event showcased the different technologies and interventions to come up with a 40 mt/ha root yield and a net income of Php. 164,000.00. It also links farmers to major cassava stakeholders like the DA, Local Government Units, and San Miguel Foods Inc.
