The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office No. 02 (DA-RFO 02) is set to further intensify its promotion of mushroom production in Cagayan Valley.
This is after the office had spearheaded the inauguration of the Cagayan Valley Mushroom Research and Development Center located at DA-Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), San Vicente, City of Ilagan, Isabela.
Said edifice was established to support the Research and Development (R&D) activities on processing of agricultural waste into sustainable and competitive mushroom production towards food security and safety in Region 02.
Executive Director Nicomedes Eleazar of BAR and Regional Executive Director Lorenzo M. Caranguian of DA-RFO 02 led the blessing and inauguration of the center as part of the recently concluded Panagdadapun and 1st Makan Festival.
Mushroom production is emerging as productive endeavour of farmers in Cagayan Valley.
The DA-RFO 02, through its research centers and experiment stations, had already undertaken trainings on production and processing to interested farmers, cooperatives and local government units.
There are now products out of mushroom developed such as rice mushroom polvoron, miki, crispy bites, chamfee, cookies, muffin, bola bola and many others.
The facility was funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR).
