The Department of Agriculture – Batanes Experiment Station successfully delivered and distributed 15,000 kilograms of garlic planting materials and 900 bags of organic fertilizer to three partner farmers’ organizations: Isamurong Farmers Association of Uyugan, Federation of Ivana Integrated Farmers Association of Ivana, and Kayhuvokan Farmers Association of Basco.

This initiative forms part of the Garlic Expansion Program, which aims to increase the production area of garlic in Batanes and empower local farmers through the provision of quality planting materials and organic production inputs.

By strengthening garlic production at the community level, the program seeks to improve farm productivity, enhance farmers’ incomes, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Batanes has long been recognized for producing premium-quality garlic, known for its exceptional flavor and quality.

Through the collective efforts of our farmers, local government units, and the Department of Agriculture, the province continues to play a vital role in revitalizing the country’s garlic industry.

As these planting materials are established in farmers’ fields, we move one step closer to our shared goal of expanding local garlic production and contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce import dependence and increase national garlic sufficiency.

Together, we cultivate not only garlic—but also food security, farmer prosperity, and a stronger agricultural future for Batanes and the Philippines.
