Food and non-alcoholic beverages has 7.0 % (0.6%) inflation in April, third to housing and electricity 55.0 %, and transport, 37.4%, leading to 3.8% inflation in Cagayan, Ms. Cristeta Retoma, Chief Statistical Specialist, Cagayan PSA said in the Press Con 14, May 2026.
Meanwhile, fish and other seafood and oils and fats registered lower inflation at 3.1% from 4.5% last March while meat and fruits headlined faster negative inflation at -9.1% from March’s -7.3%
The April inflation results suggest that agri-related price pressure remained contained, but with uneven movement across commodity lines.
The moderation from 4.5% to 3.1% in seafoods indicate a slowdown in upward price pressures, which may reflect improved availability, stabilization in input costs, or reduced demand conditions affecting these items.
The negative inflation from -7.3% to -9.1% signals that prices for meat and fruit-related products continued to ease more strongly than in the previous month. This pattern may indicate better supply conditions, reduced market prices at the farm level, or easing distribution or retail costs.
Despite mixed performance among food subcategories, the overall Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages inflation remained low at 0.6%, implying that the agri sector did not substantially contribute to accelerating inflation in April. Instead, price movements appear to have balanced upward and downward trends, helping limit overall food inflation.
